Porcelain Veneers/Bonding Veneers

Porcelain veneers can dramatically improve the position, size, color and shape of your teeth while maintaining a natural sheen and translucency. They can also close gaps and conceal small imperfections in the alignment of your teeth, making them look straighter, white, and brighter! Porcelain is harder than tooth enamel, so it resists wear and staining. In fact, veeneers do not discolor with age like natural teeth do! We custom-fabricate all veneers to provide permanent esthetic results.

What are Veneers?

A veneer is an ultra-thin, porcelain shell that is placed on a tooth in order to improve its appearance. Veneers are bonded to the front surface of teeth in order to change their color, shape, size, or length.

For example, if a patient has a chipped tooth in a prominent location, a veneer may be the perfect solution to cover it up. Likewise, a stained tooth that detracts from the rest of the smile can be covered with a veneer that matches surrounding teeth. Going a step further, veneers can even be used to reduce a large gap between two teeth. Whatever it is that’s detracting from the look of your smile, there is a good chance that veneers will be able to help.

Are Veneers a Good Option for You?

As is always the case with dental work, the right treatment is the one you and your dentist agree upon after discussing the various issues at play. When you visit your dentist for an appointment, you’ll be able to talk over the treatment options and make a plan for the one that suits you best. With that said, we can highlight some points that may make you a good candidate for dental veneers.

  • Teeth are in relatively good condition. Since the addition of a veneer is not going to do anything to address issues of decay or other  problems, you’ll want to be adding them to teeth that are in otherwise good health. Other dental treatments are available to deal with teeth that are unhealthy.
  • You don’t grind your teeth. If you have problems with grinding your teeth, either at night or during the day, veneers may not be a good choice. The grinding action can actually damage the veneers, undoing any progress that you made by having them added.
  • You desire a subtle change. Using veneers is more of a subtle improvement to your smile than a major overhaul. It’s a great choice for changing the color appearance of a tooth, or for covering up a crack, but it’s not going to radically alter the shape of your smile.

What to Expect

One of the great advantages of dental veneers is the simple, straightforward process used to complete the treatment. If you are a little uncomfortable with invasive dental work, you will be relieved to learn how easy this process can be.

After you have a visit with your dentist to discuss the treatment and take some x-rays, an appointment will be made to do the prep work. That prep includes removing a small amount of tooth enamel to make room for the veneers. Once they are prepared, you’ll come back to have them placed. The cement used to fix them in place will dry quickly, and you will be on your way. From there, you may need to come back for a follow-up a month or two later, just to make sure everything is looking good. That’s it!

Common Questions

Do veneers look natural?

Porcelain veneers look like natural teeth and dramatically improve the esthetic of patient’s teeth, giving them a strong, natural smiley they can wear proudly and confidently.

Can veneers fall off?

It is possible for a veneer to come loose and fall off, but it is not common. Should this occur, save the veneer and do not attempt to put it back in place on your own. Call the dental office to schedule an appointment for assistance.
